On Tuesday Wā attended a dawn site blessing of Tīramarama Way in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter. The pedestrian street forms a new central public space in the Wynyard Central development. The buildings constructed to date are impressive architecture that are starting to form up the spaces between, a credit to the coordination efforts of all involved. The new buildings will set up a network of north-south laneways linking to Tīramarama Way, which has a bold design focusing on the dynamic expression of water and light, relating to the reclaimed site’s former inter-tidal condition and the navigation East-West following Maori cosmology. The design was developed by Wā, in collaboration with celebrated New Zealand artist Lisa Reihana.

The site blessing was hosted by Ngāti Whātua Orakei representatives Matt Maihi, Bob Hawke & Tihei Tamaariki; Martin Te Moni from Ngaati Whanaunga; and Adrian Pettit from Te Akitai Waiohua.

Construction on Tīramarama Way is commencing shortly. We’re excited to see it getting underway! – NY
